Dr Kevin Pietersen – SADC-GMI Technical Groundwater Advisor says South Africa is thirsty for Groundwater Infrastructure investment
Dr Kevin Pietersen Groundwater Technical advisor says one of the issues contributing to water challenges is the aging infrastructure and our inability to conduct proper operations and maintenance of our groundwater infrastructure. He further asserts South Africa is producing enough experts work within the water sector and contribute to sustainable development and management of groundwater, but we do not leverage on the available expertise. Asked about privatization of water he said, “I’m not in favour of privatization of water because it is a social good but I’m in favour of diversifying our implementation modalities for governing and managing of groundwater, in that way, the private sector has a critical role to play, we cannot only implement through government structures, we have to explore other ways to do business”.
